I have just started up my new Macbook Pro intel portable. Upon opening an existing scrivener project from a regular power mac, I was shocked to discover that the project appears to be untouched...when, in fact, it was full of words. I looked at the package content and indeed, there are plenty of rtfd files...just the scrivener window ignores them, looking like a brand new project.
If I make a fake project from scratch and type something in, I can close it and open it. The problem is only with the single project originally made on a standard mac. This...is not so good!

This is very strange and indeed rather alarming. Nobody else has reported any problems with opening old projects on an Intel-based Mac, and unfortunately I do not have access to one to test this out for myself; I'm having to rely on beta-testers for this (there won't be an official release of Scrivener until I have tested it on an Intel Mac, of course).
The good news is that all of your words are still intact in the RTFD files, of course; now we just have to work out why it won't open.
The strange thing is that there is *no* reason why the project should not open properly. All preferences will be lost, of course (whether folders are open or closed, that sort of thing), as they are stored locally, but all of the folders and files should actually be there.
Just to try the obvious:
How did you open the project? Have you tried double-clicking the project to open it? Did you go through Project > Open?
Are the files and folders even visible inside Scrivener?
Is the correct project name displayed in the title bar at the top?
Have the permissions on the project gotten changed in the process of copying it over to your new computer?
I would be very grateful if you could make a back up of your project and then investigate this matter as much as you can - please DO get back to me whether you get it working or not, as this is the obviously sort of thing that is going to eat away at me until I know it is working/fixed.
Many thanks, Keith
UPDATE: Okay, I've been looking into this, and I have found one case where A Very Bad Thing can happen. If permissions are set to "No Access" when you open a project, even though Scrivener will tell you that the file cannot be opened, it will then overwrite the binder file with a blank binder - ouch. When you open your project next time (after fixing the permissions), everything will look blank - all synopses etc will be lost. This is clearly a major bug, though fortunately it was very easy to fix (one line of code), so the freeware version of Scrivener 0.2b which I will release next week will have this fixed.
If this is what happened to you, please just re-copy the project from your Powerbook to your MacBook and then make sure all the permissions are set to "Read & Write" via Finder's Get Info before opening the project. Please do let me know if this fixed the problem. Thanks.

Well, I spoke too soon, perhaps, in blaming the intel mac. I went back to my previous portable (a 12") which was never sync'd with the new computer (I installed documents from my home desktop). The 12" has the same problem as does my office machine. So, something happened before the new computer and I have no idea what it could be. (I also have a nightly backup and it's similarly messed up.)
The obvious:
1. I first opened the project from the open menu, then from double clicking the project. Same results.
2. nothing is visible from within Scrivener. It looks like a brand new, untouched project.
3. the correct project name is displayed.
4. Permissions...that's not an issue now presumably. But, it's read-write for the owner (me).
All of the content is there. Scrivener will just not recognize it! Do you want me to send you the project file/directory?
thanks.

Yes, I would be *very* grateful if you could send me the project file/directory. Even better if you could send me the project file that won't open on your MacBook as well as the project from your old Mac that hasn't been moved or touched. That way I can take a peek "under the hood" to see what is different and whether one has been accidentally overwritten by Scrivener.
Obviously I want to fix this ASAP, as there is no way Scrivener will be ready for release without a fix for this.
Many thanks again, Keith
