A common behaviour on web pages is for a text field to contain its own description, eg a search field will contain the word "Search", but when you click on the field to use it the descriptive text is cleared.
This would be a good behaviour for default text values in Scrivener too. I am thinking particularly of the "- No Synopsis -" text in a synopsis card.

Good idea, though the trouble is that the snopsis card is a text view and not a text field, and text views don't support "placeholder values" - which is what you are talking about - as text fields do...

Would it be possible to have the index cards automatically fill in the first few lines of text for the document as a placeholder? That would be more helpful that "-No Synoposis-" until you wanted to change it.

That's another good idea, but that would only work for imported files (that would be quite easy to do). It wouldn't work for new documents, though, as the place holder text gets created when the document is created in the project. How does that sound?

Uh... Yeah. *Another* good idea. It can check to see if the current synopsis is "- No Description -" and change it then. I like it! It won't be in tonight's beta, but it's easy to implement and should make it in soon.
