When I have four groups inside 'drafts' and I want to reorder them, it's quite a chore. When I select one and drag it between two others, if I hover too long the top group 'unfolds' and when I drop the group, it becomes a subgroup of that group.
Perhaps it would be better to offer a clearer visual distinction between slipping something between two groups or into one of them. For instance, currently when a document is slipped between two others, a black line appears. This is clear and informative. When a document or group is about to be dropped into another group, rather than unfolding it, perhaps simply highlight it?

Hmm, whilst I see your point and partly agree, this isn't really a Scrivener problem - it's the default behaviour of Mac OS X. The problem with simply highlighting it is that then the program has to make assumptions about where you want to drop it (eg. as the first item in the highlighted group). By unfolding, it gives you option to choose where to place your document. But like I say, this isn't something I programmed - it's OS X behaviour. You can always reorder in Storyboard view, which doesn't have this "problem". I will think about this, but I don't really want to negate "expected" behaviour. Thanks, KB

One way to solve this would be to make a little space between groups, along with some greater visual feedback. When dropping an item into a group, the line-with-a-circle indicating where it's to go is already slightly indented to the right--however, when a group unfold, it's impossible to drop the file *not* in that group. Adding a little space between groups would retain the option to drop the item between the two top-level groups, instead of in one of them.

however, when a group unfold, it's impossible to drop the file *not* in that group. Actually you can still drop something between the groups, even with the folder unfolded. Just move the mouse farther to the left until the line circle at the end of the line moves across to indicate that it is in line with the level you wish. Unfortunately it's not really possible to make the spaces bigger - or rather, if I did, it would make no difference.
