Can we have a command key for the ruler?

Hi. This should be a small thing (unless there is some factor I don't understand). Can we have a command key for Format-Text-Show Ruler. In TextEdit it is Command-R.

I just find myself regularly having to turn on the ruler and a shortcut would be very helpful.

For that matter, I would add an "Always show ruler" checkbox in the preferences.

Saving the state of the ruler should come when I get around to state-saving. I have just added Cmd-R as the keyboard shortcut, though, so that will appear in the next beta - thanks for bringing it to my attention.
