Hello beta-testers,
Many thanks for taking the time to beta-test Scrivener - I hope you enjoy it and find the program a useful additon to your writing tools. These forums are a temporary place for you to post all bug reports and suggestions for the future of Scrivener. (Temporary, because eventually, when Scrivener gets a proper website, the forums will be moved over there.)
Please do remember that Scrivener is currently only a beta-version, and that there are a number of things that need addressing before it is ready for a commercial release. In other words, please be patient. I believe that Scrivener is shaping up to be a great tool, but it still needs time to mature. Beta-testing is an importang part of the process; it will only improve through real-world use by YOU.
Before reporting a bug or making a suggestion, please check out this page:
www.rumramruf.com/ScrivenerBeta/todo.html
If the bug or suggestion is already on that list, I am already onto it. Of course, if it is a bug and you have information on how I can repeat it, or if you have a stunning idea for a way in which I might implement a planned feature, I will always be grateful.
Whenever reporting a bug, please do your best to tell me how I can recreate it. This may mean you deliberately getting the program to crash several times so that you can clarify the steps necessary to recreate the bug. Obviously, it is a lot harder for me to fix the bug if I can't reproduce it...
News of new beta versions along with a download link will be sent to the e-mail address with which you signed up to the beta-tester list. If you wish to be removed from the list, please e-mail me with "Discontinue beta" in the subject line. If you have just stumbled across this forum and are a writer using Mac OS X Tiger and would like to beta test Scrivener, be sure to check out:
www.rumramruf.com/ScrivenerBeta/info.html
The list of beta-testers is not closed - that is, there is always room for more. I only keep the link private (distributed by e-mail) because I want to know who is using the beta for now.
Some day - hopefully sometime in the first quarter of 2006 - Scrivener will be put on sale as a shareware program. But if you, as a beta-tester, either help me track down and fix a specific bug, or make a suggestion that I like so much as to implement, you will be eligible for a free copy. I already have one person on my freebies list for making suggestions on how to improve the annotations system before the beta is even out!
Well, enjoy. I really look forward to reading your comments.
