I experienced a crash trying to create a new text document with a period in the title "Chapter three.five" to be exact. Yes, I know it's odd naming (3.5 makes a lot more sense), but important for the bug report, because naming one 3.5 worked just fine. So, I'm exposing my quirky chapter numbering for the great good of bug reporting :-)

Just a few more notes--it wasn't actually a crash. That is, the program didn't go down. I got the spinning beachball for awhile, and my computer started slowing down as if Scrivener were eating my memory and resources alive. I force-quit, wrote my post, and before submitting it made sure I could duplicate it. Sure enough, same thing happened. Only this time I let it continue in the background until my system became unusable. I attempted to SSH from another machine here to kill the program from the terminal, but my system was totally unresponsive and I had to force reboot.
All for a good cause.... :-)

Thanks, will look into it. Sounds like the .five is being mistaken for part of the extension - I've discovered that I need to make the file name checking code more robust anyway.

Update: okay, this is strange. I can't reproduce this. Could you give more details? I can name a document "Chapter three.five" either by renaming or through the new text document box without any problems whatsoever... Thanks, Keith

Hi Keith,
Okay, details: I have 18 items total. Draft: 8 documents, all named Chapter [Name] (where name is spelled out, i.e. one, Two, Three, Four, etc) Research: 5 documents, 3 notes and 2 web pages. Hmmm--wait--that doesn't add up--OH! The item total is including the four default folders. Okay. In total, I have just under 14,000 words.
The name of my file is "Dorian Columns.scriv"
I caused the bug by selecting "Chapter Three" and hitting the new text button. The pop-up appeared for the name, and I typed "Chapter three.five" and the program hung when I hit the okay key.
If you still can't reproduce it, I can send you my file to see if that might help.

D'oh! This was a silly one and I'm glad you spotted it. I've fixed it for the next beta, which will be out soon. There are still a few bugs (like the word count one), but I think I'll just have to get the next beta out there anyway... Thanks, Keith
