I flipped to split-screen mode (in the compose view) so I could have the last thing I wrote visible while working on today's writing. Very handy feature, by the way.
Anyhow, I accidentally dragged the previous day's file into the white text area instead of the document's title bar, and got a little rtf file icon. Not a huge problem, I thought, just hit undo, but then I no longer had the indented paragraph formatting in my new document!
I messed around a bit then figured out I could copy and paste the ruler from another document and I'd get my indents back.
But, why did the indent get lost?

Unfortunately, I think this is an Apple bug. Essentially, there is a known bug in the Apple text system whereby inserting an attachment into the text (like an image or icon) causes certain formatting attributes to get lost.
That said, what you experienced *might* have been fixed in some code I have created for the new note system. I fixed the Apple bug with some help of some code I found by one of the Omni developers, but have yet to test whether it will cover the problem you report too. Either way, this code won't make it into Scrivener for a little while, as the new note system is a little way off yet.
(There are actually several horrible bugs in the Apple text system. The worst, by far, bit the Blue-tec guys and also affects Scrivener on occasion; it can also be seen in TextEdit and various other apps. When typing spills over onto a new line, occasionally, if there is text beneath it, that text looks like it gets overwritten. Resizing the window or selecting all fixes it, but it's really annoying - though at least an Apple engineer told me that there is a fix for this in testing at the moment.)

Ok, I'll be careful where I drop files :-)
