Here is a weird one.
By chance I have discovered that in a text document only (not the synopsis or notes) I cannot overwrite an apostrophe ('), quotation marks (") or a dash (-).
Type anything with any of those characters, select one of them, and type another character, and nothing happens. More precisely, they seem to change weight a little (the dash is the best example), but are not replaced by the new character you type.
However, you can select these characters with one or more other characters and then overwrite. You can also select and delete any of these characters and then type something else.

This is actually a "feature" of the smart quotes implementation - just a feature that needed some refinement! Thanks for pointing this out.
With smart quotes turned on, you can select a quote mark and then toggle through different types of quotes. In the current beta, as you noticed, you can toggle by hitting *any* key, which isn't very intuitive. I have just changed it so that you can only toggle using the speechmarks key - any other letters will cause an overwrite, as you would expect.
Also note that in the current beta you can't switch smart quotes or smart hyphens off - there is a panel for controlling this in the next beta.
Thanks, Keith
